EMBASE.com

EMBASE.com is an Elsevier Bibliographic Database that provides extensive coverage of pharmacological and biomedical literature; it is the on-line counterpart of Excerpta Medica. Excerpta Medica & EMBASE.com are essentially the European equivalent to Index Medicus & PubMed. There is overlap between the two; EMBASE.com covers more pharmacological journals than PubMed and it includes English and foreign language journals and selected conference proceedings not in PubMed. On-line coverage begins with 1974 and about 500,000 records are added annually.

Access

The Fishbon Library has a limited number of EMBASE passwords that it distributes to selected researchers at Mount Zion. Anyone else interested in an EMBASE search should contact the Fishbon Library (e-mail: fishbon@itsa.ucsf or phone 885-7378) and the librarian will do the search for you. Access to this resource is for UCSF affiliated personnel only.

The Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health (CINAHL) database covers nearly all of the English language nursing and allied health literature. In addition to the journals, it also provides access to books, dissertations, selected conference proceedings, standards of professional practice, educational software, and audiovisual materials in nursing. On-line coverage is from 1937 to date.

BIOSIS Previews

BIOSIS Previews is a comprehensive reference database for life science research; it has broader coverage than PubMed. Scope includes the entire field of biology, plus medicine, biomedicine, agriculture, pharmacology, ecology, biochemistry, biophysics, bioengineering and biotechnology. Besides indexing about 5,500 journals, the database covers books, meeting abstracts, papers, posters, patents, and more. Coverage for some data types is from 1969- to date.
