Description: The Dermatopathology Fellowship is planned as preparation for a career in dermatopathology either in an academic setting or in practice with an academic orientation. Our philosophy is that a second year of training is desirable for almost all applicants. Training in diagnostic dermatopathology is founded on our volume of over 60,000 accessions per year, roughly 10,000 of which are consultations on previously prepared slides, and thus contains a high proportion of challenging material. Fellows see a proportion of cases prior to their being signed out by an attending. Ancillary diagnostic training is available in immunoperoxidase techniques and molecular biology. Research opportunities include clinicopathologic studies, immunoperoxidase, ultrastructural, and molecular biologic investigation of aspects of skin disease, in collaboration with laboratories in the department of Pathology and Dermatology, and the UCSF Cancer Center. Special interests include molecular cytogenetics of melanoma, cutaneous lymphomas, vascular neoplasms, and inflammatory skin disease. The next available fellowship position begins July 1, 2007. Requirements: Board eligible in AP, AP/CP, or Dermatology. Applications: |
